TNEB Domestic Tariff Slabs (2026)
Monthly-equivalent rates per the TNERC-approved LT-IA Domestic tariff, effective 1 July 2025. Each slab rate applies only to the units that fall within that band (telescopic billing).
| Slab (units/month) | Rate per unit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 0 – 100 | ₹0.00 | Free units — Government of Tamil Nadu subsidy |
| 101 – 200 | ₹4.70 | Applies only to units in this band |
| 201 – 300 | ₹6.30 | Applies only to units in this band |
| 301 – 400 | ₹8.40 | Applies only to units in this band |
| Above 400 | ₹11.55 | Applies to every unit above 400 |
| Fixed charge | ≈ ₹36.75 / kW | Based on sanctioned connection load, billed regardless of usage |

Telescopic slab logic
Correctly applies each rate only to the units within that band, exactly how TANGEDCO calculates your bill — not a flat average rate.
Fixed charge included
Adds the load-based fixed charge on top of energy charges, so your estimate reflects the full bill — not just the per-unit cost.
Nothing stored, nothing shared
Runs entirely in your browser. No login, no meter number, no personal data collected or saved anywhere.
How to read your TNEB bill estimate
Where to find your units consumed
Your TNEB smart or digital meter shows a running total in kWh. To get your monthly units, subtract your previous bill's closing reading from your current reading. If you're on the old bi-monthly cycle, divide that figure by two to get a monthly-equivalent number for this calculator.
Why your official bill may differ slightly
This calculator uses the standard TNERC-approved LT-IA Domestic tariff effective 1 July 2025. Your actual TANGEDCO bill can vary slightly due to a quarterly Fuel & Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FSA), meter reading rounding, or any pending arrears — always treat this as a close estimate, not a substitute for your official bill.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. TANGEDCO (TNEB) gives all domestic consumers 100 free units every billing cycle under the Tamil Nadu government subsidy scheme. If your monthly-equivalent usage is 100 units or less, your energy charge is ₹0 — you may still owe a small fixed charge.
TNEB uses a telescopic slab system: each slab rate applies only to the units that fall in that band, not your entire usage. For example, if you use 250 units, the first 100 are free, the next 100 (101–200) are billed at ₹4.70/unit, and the remaining 50 (201–250) at ₹6.30/unit. A small fixed charge based on your connected load is added on top.
Domestic TNEB bills are officially issued bi-monthly (once every two months). This calculator shows the monthly-equivalent figure for easier comparison — for your bi-monthly total, use the "Show as bi-monthly total" option or simply double the monthly estimate.
TNEB charges a small fixed amount based on your sanctioned connection load (in kW), regardless of how many units you consume. This calculator adds it automatically based on the load you select — it is separate from the per-unit energy charges shown in the slab breakdown.
This tool is built for LT-IA Domestic (residential) TNEB connections, which cover the vast majority of Tamil Nadu households. Commercial, industrial and agricultural connections use different tariff structures and are not covered here.
The calculator uses the TNERC-approved domestic tariff slabs effective from 1 July 2025. It gives a close estimate for planning purposes, but your official bill may vary slightly due to fuel surcharge adjustments, meter rounding, or arrears — always refer to your actual TANGEDCO bill for the final payable amount.
