What students should know about JEE

A short overview of how the exam works, so you know where your practice fits.

🪜

Two stages

JEE Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Students who qualify in JEE Main can appear for JEE Advanced, which is organised by one of the IITs.

📅

Main in two sessions

NTA has held JEE Main in two sessions a year, in January and April, and counted the better score. Check the current notice for the exact rules.

📚

Physics, Chemistry and Maths

Both stages test Class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Main leans on speed and accuracy, while Advanced tests deeper concepts and problem solving.

🏫

Where the scores lead

JEE Main scores are used for admission to NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded institutes. JEE Advanced is the route to the IITs.

Check the latest rules. Dates, paper pattern, marking scheme and eligibility change from year to year. For the current information, use the official JEE Main (NTA) and JEE Advanced websites. StudyHelpAI is an independent study tool and is not affiliated with NTA or the IITs.

A free JEE AI assistant for Physics, Chemistry and Maths

Whether you call it a JEE AI, a JEE assistant or a JEE question solver, here is what StudyHelpAI does for your preparation, and where it stops.

🧠

Solves JEE-level doubts

Type a question or photograph one from your question bank and get the method, the working and the answer, pitched at JEE Main or JEE Advanced level.

🔍

Shows the reasoning

Every answer is worked out step by step before the final answer is stated, so you can see exactly where your own attempt went off track.

🌐

Explains in your language

Pick English, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada or Malayalam to understand a concept, then re-read it in English to get comfortable with the exam terms.

⚠️

Honest about its limits

It is an AI and can slip on long calculations and organic mechanisms. Use it to learn, then check important results against standard books or your teacher.

Three sample answers in the style the solver writes: the method, the working and a note on the common trap. Tap a button to ask the same question yourself, or type your own.

Find the limit of (1 − cos x) / x² as x → 0

JEE Main Maths · limits · two methods
Method 1: identity
  1. Use 1 − cos x = 2 sin²(x/2).
  2. The expression becomes 2 sin²(x/2) / x² = ½ · [sin(x/2) / (x/2)]².
  3. As x → 0, sin(x/2)/(x/2) → 1, so the limit is ½ · 1² = ½.
Method 2: L'Hôpital's rule

The form is 0/0. Differentiate top and bottom: sin x / 2x, still 0/0. Differentiate again: cos x / 2 → ½.

Answer and trap

The limit is 1/2. The identity method is faster in an exam and works without calculus rules. A common mistake is to use sin x ≈ x on a part of the expression and lose the second-order term.

A particle in SHM: find the maximum velocity and the velocity at x = 0.06 m

JEE Main Physics · simple harmonic motion · amplitude 0.1 m, period 2 s
Steps
  1. Angular frequency: ω = 2π/T = 2π/2 = π rad/s.
  2. Velocity is maximum at the mean position: v_max = Aω = 0.1 × π ≈ 0.31 m/s.
  3. At displacement x: v = ω√(A² − x²).
  4. With x = 0.06 m: v = π√(0.1² − 0.06²) = π√(0.01 − 0.0036) = π × 0.08 ≈ 0.25 m/s.
Common trap

Using x instead of A in the maximum velocity, or putting x in degrees. Also note that 0.1² − 0.06² = 0.08², which is why this problem was chosen.

Compare SN1 and SN2 reactions

JEE Main Chemistry · organic mechanisms
Key differences
  1. Steps and kinetics. SN1 is a two-step reaction with rate = k[RX] (first order). SN2 is a single concerted step with rate = k[RX][Nu] (second order).
  2. Intermediate. SN1 goes through a carbocation. SN2 has a single transition state with no intermediate.
  3. Substrate. SN1 is favoured by tertiary substrates (stable carbocation). SN2 is favoured by methyl and primary substrates (less steric hindrance).
  4. Stereochemistry. SN1 gives a mixture of inversion and retention, often racemisation. SN2 gives complete inversion of configuration.
  5. Solvent. SN1 is favoured by polar protic solvents. SN2 is favoured by polar aprotic solvents.
Trap

Secondary substrates can go either way, so look at the nucleophile, the solvent and the leaving group before you decide.

How to ask for JEE-style help

The way you ask changes what you learn. These prompts get you reasoning, alternatives and traps, not just a final answer.

Prompts that work well for JEE
What you wantExample prompt
Deeper concept"Explain rotational dynamics at JEE Advanced level, with the key ideas first."
A faster method"Is there a shorter way to solve this in an exam?"
Common traps"What mistakes do students commonly make in this topic?"
Check your work"Here is my solution. Where did I go wrong?" (upload a photo of your working)
More practice"Give me three similar problems with increasing difficulty, without solutions."

Try first

Spend a real attempt on the problem before you ask. The struggle is what makes the explanation stick.

Then compare

Read the explanation and find the exact step where your approach differed. That step is the lesson.

Redo it later

Solve the same problem again after a few days without looking. If you can, you have learned it.

Check the answer. StudyHelpAI is an AI tool and can make mistakes in long calculations, organic mechanisms and tricky Advanced-level questions. Verify important results against your standard books, your teacher or the official answer key.

Not a replacement for practice. Use it alongside your regular coaching or self-study. Timed mock tests and solving many problems yourself are still essential for JEE.

How to get the most from StudyHelpAI for JEE

Five habits that make the explanations deeper and more useful for the exam.

🎚️

Ask for the right depth

Say "at JEE Advanced level" or "for JEE Main" so the answer is pitched correctly, and ask for the key ideas before the calculation.

⚡

Ask for alternate approaches

JEE rewards speed. After a solution, ask "is there a shorter method?" and learn two or three ways to attack the same problem type.

⚠️

Ask what the common mistakes are

For every topic you study, ask what students usually get wrong. Knowing the traps before the exam saves marks.

🌐

Learn in your language, then switch

If a concept will not click, switch the language buttons to Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada or Malayalam first. Then re-read it in English so you know the technical terms used in the exam.

📷

Snap a photo instead of retyping

For a printed question bank or a graph or diagram problem, use the Image Upload tab and crop to just that question, so you do not have to retype equations or redraw figures.
