The basics of how Tamil Nadu Agricultural University turns your Class 12 marks into a rank.
Four subjects, 50 marks each
Each of your four eligible subjects is converted to 50 marks and the total is your aggregate out of 200.
Every subject counts equally
Unlike TNEA, no subject is weighted higher. Biology matters as much as Maths, Physics or Chemistry.
No entrance exam
Admission to the state seats is purely on Class 12 marks. Apply once online and join one counselling.
14 degree programmes
B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry and more, plus B.Tech programmes in agricultural engineering and technology.

How to use your TNAU cutoff
Five habits that turn a number into a plan.
Enter marks, not percentages
Use your marks out of 100 in each subject, as printed on your mark sheet. Grades and grace marks are not used.
Pick the right subject group
Group I, Group II, Group II-A and the B.Tech combination each use different four subjects. Choose yours in the calculator.
Check minimum eligibility
Your community sets a minimum aggregate percentage. OC needs 55%, BC and BCM 50%, MBC and DNC 45%.

How TNAU admission and the cutoff work
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) admits students to its undergraduate agriculture, horticulture, forestry and allied programmes through a single online application and a merit-based rank list. There is no separate entrance exam for the state seats. Your rank is built from your Class 12 marks.
The TNAU aggregate is out of 200. Each of your four eligible subjects is converted to a score out of 50, and the four scores are added together. For a Group I student this means Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology each carry the same weight. Candidates are ranked by aggregate, ties are broken in a fixed order, and a community rank is prepared for reserved categories.
Marks from other boards
If you did not take the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary examination, TNAU applies a normalisation procedure set under the Tamil Nadu Admission in Professional Educational Institutions Act, 2006 before computing eligibility and rank. This calculator applies the standard method to the marks you enter, so use normalised marks where you have them.
Counselling and choices
General seats are filled through online single-window counselling. You fill your preferred programmes and colleges, and seats are allotted by rank, community and your choice order. Being called for counselling does not guarantee a seat, and an upward movement system lets you move to a better choice if a vacancy arises. The brochure also reserves 20% of seats in selected programmes for the ICAR national entrance route.

TNAU cutoff calculator: questions answered
TNAU converts your Class 12 marks in each of the four eligible subjects to a score out of 50 and adds them up, giving an aggregate out of 200. In practice the aggregate equals the total of your four subject marks (each out of 100) divided by 2. The TNAU brochure's own example, Maths 90, Physics 94, Chemistry 80 and Biology 70, gives 45 + 47 + 40 + 35 = 167.
For Group I students the four subjects are Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Other eligible combinations use their own four subjects as set out in the brochure, such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry and an elective, or Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Additional subjects, English and language papers are not counted, and grace marks are not included.
You can still apply for the B.Sc programmes with a Biology group (Group II or II-A). Your aggregate is calculated from your four eligible subjects instead. In tie-breaks, your Biology (or Botany + Zoology) marks take the place of Maths. Check Section 2.1.2 and Table 7 of the TNAU UG brochure for your exact combination.
The TNAU 2026-27 brochure sets minimum qualifying marks of 55% aggregate in the four required subjects for OC candidates, 50% for BC and BCM, and 45% for MBC and DNC. SC, SCA and ST candidates need a pass in the four required subjects. The aggregate percentage is your aggregate out of 200 divided by 2.
No. The TNEA engineering cutoff is Maths + Physics ÷ 2 + Chemistry ÷ 2, using three subjects. The TNAU aggregate uses four subjects worth 50 marks each. The same marks can give different values under the two systems, so use the right calculator for the right counselling.
If your qualifying examination is not the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary examination, TNAU applies the normalisation procedure ordered under the Tamil Nadu Admission in Professional Educational Institutions Act, 2006 before ranking. Enter your normalised marks here if you have them. Otherwise treat the result as indicative.
In the general rank list, ties are broken in this order: marks out of 50 in Maths (or in Biology or Botany + Zoology if Maths was not studied), then Physics, then Chemistry, then date of birth (the older candidate first), and finally a random number.
TNAU does not publish one fixed cutoff. The closing aggregate depends on the college, the programme, your community and the year. Education portals report that the most sought-after government seats close at very high General-category aggregates, but those figures are unofficial. Check TNAU's published allotment and vacancy lists for exact past closing marks.
No. This is an independent educational calculator by StudyHelpAI. It applies the aggregate method published in the TNAU UG brochure to the marks you enter. Your official aggregate and rank appear on the rank list at tnau.ucanapply.com.
