How to Calculate Attendance Percentage

Attendance percentage is calculated as: (Classes Attended รท Total Classes Held) ร— 100. Most Indian colleges and universities require a minimum of 75% attendance to be eligible to sit for semester exams, though this varies by institution โ€” some allow condonation down to 65% with a medical certificate or valid reason.

If you're below the required percentage, this calculator tells you exactly how many of your remaining classes you need to attend to reach the target. If you're comfortably above it, it tells you how many classes you can safely skip without dropping below the minimum.

This is especially useful for college students under CBSE-affiliated universities, Anna University, and state universities across Tamil Nadu and India where the 75% rule is strictly enforced before exam hall tickets are issued.

Attendance Calculator โ€” Questions Answered

Most Indian universities, including Anna University and CBSE-affiliated institutions, require a minimum of 75% attendance to be eligible for semester exams. Some colleges allow condonation to 65โ€“70% with a valid medical certificate or documented reason โ€” always check your specific institution's attendance policy, as it can vary.

Divide the number of classes you've attended by the total number of classes held so far, then multiply by 100. For example, if you attended 42 out of 50 classes, your attendance is (42 รท 50) ร— 100 = 84%.

It depends on how many classes have already been held and how many remain in the term. Use the "How Many Classes Needed" tab above โ€” enter your attended classes, total classes so far, remaining classes, and your target percentage, and it will tell you exactly how many more classes you can skip or must attend.

Most colleges will not issue an exam hall ticket if your attendance is below the required threshold, meaning you cannot sit for that semester's exams unless the shortage is condoned by your institution for a valid, documented reason (usually medical). Policies vary by college, so check with your department office if you're close to the limit.

This calculator uses the standard percentage formula and works for any institution โ€” you just need to enter your own required percentage (the default is 75%, but you can change it to match your college's specific rule, such as 65% or 80%).
